AID is one of the few local organizations eligible for Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund direct access. In practice that means decisions about targeting, sequencing and design are made by people who live in the operating environment rather than relayed through several layers of intermediaries.
Communities as partners, not beneficiaries
Assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring all involve community members, local leaders, women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Participation is not a consultation held once at the start. It runs through the project cycle, which is what makes the resulting interventions culturally appropriate and locally accepted.
The systems behind the promise
Locally led does not mean lightly governed. Governance, safeguarding, compliance, MEAL, financial management and procurement systems are all in place and continue to be strengthened in line with national law and international standards. Those systems are what let partners move quickly with confidence.
