Distance is a health outcome. A mother three hours from the nearest clinic makes a different decision about a sick child than a mother thirty minutes away. Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams close that distance, travelling to settlements that would otherwise appear in no register at all.

What the teams carry

  • Primary consultations and referral for 156,000 patients reached
  • Routine immunisation, with 2,100 children vaccinated
  • Antenatal and postnatal support for 26,000 mothers
  • Health education sessions reaching 179,000 people

Building the facility behind the outreach

Outreach only works if there is somewhere to refer people to. AID has expanded health centres, installed solar power so cold chains and lighting hold overnight, and trained 120 health professionals. Emergency ambulance services connect the two ends of the system.
